Eid-ul-Fitr
is a famous holiday in Bangladesh. It is on the 1st day of Arabic
month Shawwal. After a month long fasting, Muslim’s celebrate this day as a
fast breaking festival. On this day, they gather early in the morning in
outdoor locations or mosques to perform the Eid prayer. They pay 'Zakat al
Fitr' to poor people so that they can enjoy this eid day. After the Eid prayer,
people usually visit various family and friends, give gifts (especially to
children), and make phone calls to distant relatives to give well-wishes for
this holiday. In this day people wear new dress and prepare rich foods.
Eid-ul-Fitr is also known as ‘sweet eid’ because of the amount and variety of
sweet dishes prepared on this day. This holiday last three days and these days
are govt. holiday.
